overwhelmingly positive!
Holland America
Line’s newest cruise ship and thier first Signature
Class ship - made its public debut earlier this month.
The ms Eurodam’s inaugural was a gala event.
The London Quartet and the OperaBabes provided entertainment
as the crowd gathered in the specially constructed amphitheater
and along the quay. The ceremony - held before 2,500
invited guests began when Holland America Line Mariner®
Ambassadors Martin and Tineke Schroder assisted Captain
Jeroen van Donselaar in the blessing of the ship’s
bell. Each poured a flute of champagne over the bell,
followed by the traditional ship’s blessing. The
ship’s godmother, Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of
The Netherlands, was escorted to the stage by Micky
Arison, Chairman and CEO of Carnival Cruise Lines. The
Queen proclaimed, “I name this ship Eurodam. May
God bless the Eurodam and all who sail in her.”
Then the Queen rang the ship’s bell, signaling
for the release of the champagne bottle. The bottle
broke against the ship’s side, the orchestra and
guest artists OperaBabes burst into Beethoven’s
“Ode to Joy,” and streamers rained down over
the cheering audience.
