South
America At first glance of the world map, it
seems you have been everywhere. Yet, upon closer inspection,
you notice you've missed the glacier-studded Strait
of Magellan and the species-rich Beagle Channel. And
when is it your plan to tango Argentina? Come,
expand the boundaries of your world as you experience
South America. The wildlife in this area is amazing.
You will get a chance to see cormorants diving into
the ocean for food, seals basking in the sun and penguins
swimming in the icy waters. Youll be able to enjoy
the unspoiled beauty of the area from the comfort of
your cruise ship. South
America is the sum of many parts. On the one hand, there
are cities every bit as cosmopolitan as any found north
of the equator. Then, there is the wild and untamed
side, with lush rain forests and staggering mountain
peaks that reach high into the sky. Stretching from
the world's highest waterfall to the land's end in Tierra
del Fuego, South America is a living mosaic of inviting
people, natural wonder and unforgettable moments.

Princess South America cruises. This exotic, mysterious
and magical region of the world is a feast for all five
senses. South America's colorful cultures and alluring
history feed your appetite for adventure and it becomes
contagious. This is the region where you will experience
contrasting cities, stunning archeological ruins, icy
fjords, lush dense jungles and landscapes so remote
that they've rarely been seen by anyone but the most
intrepid explorers.
The mighty Amazon, dramatic
Cape Horn, the alluring Machu Picchu, the untouched
Galapagos Islands and the remote continent of Antarctica
are all highlights of Princess Cruises' 2008-09 South
America adventures.

Argentina
- Port City - Buenos Aires The beautiful, elegant
city is one of the largest in the world and is the birthplace
of one of the most sensual dances known: the Tango.
This is the place to stop to see it performed at its
best. The people are friendly and the food, especially
the beef, is legendary. Known as the Paris of the South,
this cosmopolitan business center is rich in charm and
culture. There are opera houses, museums and cathedrals
that rival any in Europe. Puerto Madero, the city's
oldest port, has been transformed into a vibrant restaurant
and boutique center. Argentina
- Port City - Puerto Madryn Youll fall prey
to the enchantment of this city rich with a Welsh flavor
inherited from the original settlers. Gateway to the
wildlife reserve of the Valdez Peninsula, it embraces
a sea rich in adventures: Bird island, North Point with
its important colony of sea lions, and Punta Delgada
framed by steep cliffs and a lighthouse dating back
the early 1900s. Argentina

land with magnificent seascapes, stunning fjords and
abundant wildlife. The coastline is a treasure-laden

- Port City - Ushuaia When you visit this quaint
picture-postcard town, somewhat reminiscent of a Swiss
town nestled against snow capped mountains, make sure
to visit the Museo Territorialwhere you will find
relics from the Indian natives. With its lakes, rivers,
forests and glaciers, the national park is home to awesome
natural scenery. Surrounded on three sides by towering
peaks, this former penal colony hardly seems like a
suitable site to exact justice from the scourge of society.
Certainly, even the scientifically inclined Charles
Darwin must have had a difficult time leaving this Eden
during his travels through the area.
Brazil - Port City
- Belem This city is one of the chief Brazilian
ports on the Amazon. For the hardy and adventurous traveler,

here. It is one of the few places on the Amazon that
is populated and as most of them are, it is rather sparsely
populated. Brazil
- Port City - Fortaleza In this city, perched on
the tip of Brazil, bold, modern architecture contrasts
with beautiful beaches and tall coconut palms. In fact,

Bahia, is a walkway to the past. Browse around the Modelo

You can reach the preserved colonial district of the
Upper City by stone steps, alleyways or
the famous Lacerda Elevator. Chile

architecture of the Customs Building and St. Marks Cathedral
mixed with the modern buildings. Relax at one of the
beautiful beaches or climb the historic Morro, which

area is amazing. You will get a chance to see cormorants
diving into the ocean for food, seals basking in the
sun and penguins swimming in the icy waters. Chile
- Port City - Cape Horn On Horn Island is the southernmost
point of South America: infamous Cape Horn. Youll
be able to enjoy the unspoiled beauty of the area from
the comfort of your cruise ship. Chile
- Port City - Castro Castro is located on the island
chain off the coast of mainland Chile. It is comprised
mostly of dormant and active volcanoes and one of the
ways the inhabitants adapted to the rugged terrain is
to build their houses on long, sturdy stilts. Chile
- Port City - Puerto Montt Puerto Montt is the gateway
to the beautiful Lake District and Chilean Patagonia.
Surrounded by the regal Andes mountains, this town retains
its Bavarian flavor, inherited from its German settlers,
with shingles, high-pitched roofs and ornate balconies.
Visit nearby Angelmó with its relaxed atmosphere, outstanding
crafts market and fabulous seafood.
Chile - Port City - Punta Arenas Punta Arenas
is the southernmost city in South America. Discover

and discover Tierra del Fuego across the strait. Chile
- Port City - Strait of Magellan This passage, surrounded
by snow-covered mountains, separates South America from
Tierra del Fuego. Enjoy its natural and unspoiled beauty
teeming with wildlife. You may just be able to catch
a glimpse of an elusive whale or a majestic condor.
Chile - Port City
- Valparaiso Trapped between the waterfront and
the nearby hills, this city was built on terraces overlooking
the bay. Explore the winding cobbled streets or check
out the goods offered at the lively market at the Muelle
Prat. In nearby Viña del Mar you can enjoy a ride on
a horse-drawn carriage as you take in the attractive
turn-of-the-century mansions and beautifully manicured
parks. French Guiana
- Port City - Devil's Island Made famous for being

the jail and afterwards enjoy a leisurely picnic while
surrounded by exotic birds and vegetation. Peru

to a land rich with historical and archaeological treasures.
Wander the bustling streets of Lima, lined with lovely
colonial buildings, and discover the many markets that
offer charming regional handicrafts. Uruguay

mixture of colonial Spanish, Italian and Art Deco. Take

del Puerto, where youll find a variety of eateries,

Caracas. It is one of the busiest ports in South America.
It is proud to show off its beautiful beaches
and warm tropical climate. This is the place to visit
to have some of the exotic food and get in some shopping
in the Centro Simon Bolivar.
Venezuela - Port City - Puerto Ordaz On the
banks of the Orinoco River, this is one of the nicest
and friendliest cities in Venezuela. Here you can search
for diamonds in the river or, if you prefer, discover
some enchanting scenery at Caroni Falls, on the way
to Ciudad Guayana. For some of the best arepas, make
sure to visit the neighboring city of San Felix. And
at the Colonial Place of Ciudad Bolivar you can stroll
the narrow cobblestone streets in search of the historical
legacy of Simon Bolivar. |
